Rahul Gandhi, during a recent visit to his parliamentary constituency of Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, has doubled down on his allegations of "vote theft" against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), promising to soon reveal further evidence. He asserted that he already possesses proof of such activities and that even more "explosive proof" is on its way.
Gandhi claimed that the slogan "vote chor, gaddi chhod" (vote thief, give up the seat) is resonating throughout the nation. He stated, "This is the truth that governments are being formed by stealing votes". Addressing BJP leaders, Gandhi suggested they should brace themselves, as the forthcoming "hydrogen bomb" of evidence would wipe everything clean.
The Congress leader's accusations extend beyond Raebareli, alleging that elections have been stolen in Maharashtra, Haryana, and Karnataka. Gandhi specifically pointed to the "Gujarat model" as a scheme for electoral fraud involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and the Election Commission. He claimed that the BJP's electoral victories were built on "cutting votes and adding (fake) voters". Gandhi also alleged the Election Commission's complicity in the BJP's favor during assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, as well as the Lok Sabha polls.
Gandhi highlighted alleged irregularities, such as the supposed addition of one crore more votes in Maharashtra after the Lok Sabha elections, all of which he claims went to the BJP. He stated that his party had previously lacked concrete evidence but has since found it, particularly in Maharashtra.
While media wasn't allowed at a program of party workers from Harchandpur Vidhan Sabha, sources indicate that the Congress leader said that there was evidence "in black and white" of vote theft in the Maharashtra and Karnataka assembly elections. He also accused the BJP of neglecting marginalized groups such as OBCs and Adivasis, stating that the BJP-RSS never want them to move forward.
In response to Gandhi's claims, the BJP has questioned his political maturity and accused him of disrespecting constitutional institutions like the Election Commission. BJP leaders have also alluded to past failed "atom bomb" promises made by Gandhi, suggesting his current claims are similarly empty. Uttar Pradesh minister Dinesh Pratap Singh launched a protest against Gandhi, demanding an apology for remarks made about Prime Minister Modi's mother and vowing to defeat the Gandhi family in Raebareli.
Meanwhile, there are hints that Rahul Gandhi's next "expose" might focus on Varanasi, Prime Minister Modi's parliamentary seat.
