The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against Anil Ambani, Chairman of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADA Group), Rana Kapoor, the co-founder of Yes Bank, and members of Kapoor's family, including his wife Bindu Kapoor and daughters Radha Kapoor and Roshni Kapoor. The chargesheet relates to allegations of fraudulent loan transactions that caused a loss of ₹2,797 crore to Yes Bank.
The CBI's investigation revealed that Yes Bank, under the direction of Rana Kapoor, invested in debentures and commercial debt paper issued by Reliance Commercial Finance Ltd (RCFL) and Reliance Home Finance Limited (RHFL), both ADA Group companies. This occurred despite credit rating agencies placing these companies "under watch" due to their poor financial performance. The CBI alleges that the funds invested by Yes Bank were subsequently siphoned out. In return for these investments, the CBI claims that Rana Kapoor's family-run firms received substantial loans from the ADA Group companies, indicating a quid pro quo arrangement.
The chargesheet names Anil Ambani, Rana Kapoor, Bindu Kapoor, Radha Kapoor, Roshni Kapoor, RCFL, RHFL (now known as Authum Investment & Infrastructure Ltd), RAB Enterprises Pvt Ltd, Imagine Estate Pvt Ltd, and Bliss House Pvt Ltd. The CBI had previously investigated others, including DHFL's Kapil Wadhawan and Dheeraj Wadhawan, for defrauding Yes Bank.
