Fans of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" have reason to celebrate as author Jenny Han has confirmed that Belly's journey will continue in a feature film following the series finale on Prime Video. The announcement, made at the show's finale red carpet event in Paris, has sparked excitement and speculation about what the movie will entail.

Han, who also serves as the writer and co-showrunner, revealed that she felt a movie was the only way to give a particular, significant event in Belly's life the attention it deserves. While specific plot details are being kept under wraps, Han has teased that "there is another big milestone left in Belly's journey". This has led to fan speculation that the movie will depict Belly's wedding to Conrad, a major event from Han's bestselling book series.

Han has stated that the film is intended to serve as a conclusion to the story. She also mentioned that she crafted season 3 of the show with the idea for a continuation of the story in mind. Han felt there were still things that the audience wanted to see and she wanted to deliver that to them in a bigger way than just wrapping up at the end of the season.

The film will be written by Han, along with writer-producer Sarah Kucserka. Han and Kucserka have already finished a draft of the script and are "chugging along". While many fans were hoping that the movie has already been secretly filmed or started production, Han has clarified that they "still have to make it". She also stated that it is "too soon" to say when the movie will be released, but it will not be next year. Han said that she likes having a little more time because she thinks there's something very special in the way that we've seen these characters grow up on screen.

The series stars Lola Tung in the lead role, alongside Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Jackie Chung, Rachel Blanchard, Sean Kaufman, and Rain Spencer. Jenny Han served as co-showrunner with Sarah Kucserka, both of whom will return as executive producers for the film. Han is excited to offer the movie as a "gift" to fans, particularly those who want to see Belly and Conrad together in a relationship.

While waiting for the movie, fans can stream all three seasons of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" on Prime Video.
