The investigation into the death of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas, whose body was discovered in an impounded Tesla registered to singer David Anthony Burke, also known as D4vd, is ongoing. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, which is being treated as a homicide, though the cause of death has not yet been determined.
Rivas was reported missing in April 2024 from Lake Elsinore, California. Her body was found on September 8, 2025, in a severely decomposed state in the front trunk of D4vd's Tesla, which had been towed to a lot in Hollywood. Workers at the tow yard noticed a foul odor emanating from the vehicle and alerted authorities.
D4vd, 20, is reportedly cooperating with the investigation. An unnamed representative for the singer told NBC Los Angeles that D4vd has been cooperating with authorities since the discovery of the body. D4vd was on tour when the body was discovered. Following the discovery, he canceled a scheduled performance in Seattle.
Several details surrounding the case have emerged. The Tesla had been abandoned for approximately five days in the upscale Bird Streets area of Hollywood Hills before being towed. Investigators are examining photos and online activity to determine Rivas's whereabouts prior to her death and to ascertain if there was any connection between her and D4vd.
Adding another layer of complexity, Rivas and D4vd reportedly had matching "Shhh..." tattoos on their right index fingers. Rivas's mother told TMZ that her daughter had been dating someone named David. Furthermore, a song titled "Celeste" was leaked in 2023 on SoundCloud and credited to D4vd. On Wednesday night, LAPD investigators searched a $5 million home in the Hollywood Hills reportedly connected to D4vd.
Authorities have not released any information about potential suspects or persons of interest, as Rivas's death has not officially been ruled a homicide pending determination of the cause of death. The LAPD has stated that they do not have a crime classification from the coroner regarding the mode or manner of death.
D4vd rose to fame as a singer-songwriter with hits like "Romantic Homicide" and "Here With Me". His music blends indie rock, R&B, and lo-fi pop, garnering him a significant following on TikTok and other platforms.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward. Celeste Rivas's family has established a GoFundMe page and expressed their heartbreak.
