Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asserted that India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has demonstrated a united and effective front in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Shah highlighted the country's success in handling the crisis compared to many developed nations, attributing it to Modi's leadership and the collective effort of 130 crore Indians.
Shah emphasized that the country had "controlled" the second wave of the coronavirus "in a very short time", attributing the success to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He acknowledged the challenges posed by the pandemic, particularly the surge in demand for oxygen, which increased tenfold from 1,000 metric tonnes daily to 10,000 metric tonnes. He said that meeting the demand within a month was a challenge, but under PM Modi's leadership, the Indian government and all the state governments accepted this challenge. He further detailed the efforts made to augment oxygen supply, including the establishment of new plants and the procurement of concentrators using the PM-CARES fund.
The Home Minister also lauded India's vaccination program, which he said had set a "world record" in terms of speed. He noted that the Prime Minister aimed to achieve maximum coverage in the shortest possible time, with over 21 crore Indians already vaccinated.
In his statements, Shah also commended the efforts of state governments, particularly the Tamil Nadu government, for their effective handling of the pandemic and for diligently implementing the central government's directives. He noted that governments and their machinery were involved in the fight against the spread of the virus, in our country, the Centre and state governments battled it "and the big thing is 130 crore people fought it under (PM) Modi unitedly.
Amidst the crisis, PM Modi held meetings with Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan to discuss the challenges being faced, particularly by urban hotspots, strategy to augment testing, as well as the number of beds needed to effectively handle the surge of daily cases.
Overall, Amit Shah's statements underscored the Modi government's perspective on its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing strong leadership, collaborative efforts, and a focus on innovative solutions to overcome the unprecedented challenges posed by the crisis.
