In the ongoing Sheena Bora murder trial, a key piece of information has surfaced: Rahul Mukerjea, Sheena Bora's fiancé and son of Peter Mukerjea, faced difficulties in filing a missing person report after Sheena disappeared in 2012. Despite his efforts to trace Sheena, several police stations allegedly refused to register his complaint.
Rahul Mukerjea testified that he made extensive efforts to locate Sheena after she went missing on April 24, 2012, following a meeting with her mother, Indrani Mukerjea. He contacted various people, including Indrani, his father Peter, Sheena's friends, her boss, and even her grandparents, but none had any information about her whereabouts.
According to Rahul's testimony, he visited the Worli police station to report Sheena's disappearance, but the police officers on duty were dismissive. They suggested that he shouldn't worry, as Sheena had gone with her mother and would likely return in a few days. The police then directed him to the Bandra police station, as that was the jurisdiction where he had last seen Sheena.
Despite Rahul's persistence, three police stations allegedly refused to register a missing person report. He even contacted his mother in Dehradun, who then reached out to the former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh through a mutual acquaintance. Singh advised Rahul to file a missing person report, emphasizing its importance. Eventually, the MIDC police took down his statement in the police diary but did not initiate a full investigation.
Audio clips have emerged of conversations between Rahul, Indrani, and Peter Mukerjea after Sheena's disappearance, revealing how the couple allegedly misled Rahul about Sheena's whereabouts. These recordings captured Rahul's frantic calls and the responses from Indrani and Peter, which later became crucial evidence in the investigation.
The Sheena Bora murder case revolves around the alleged killing of 25-year-old Sheena Bora in 2012. Indrani Mukerjea, Sheena's mother, is accused of the murder, along with her former driver, Shyamvar Pinturam Rai, and ex-husband, Sanjeev Khanna. The prosecution claims that Indrani strangled Sheena and disposed of her body in the jungles of Pen in the Raigad district. Indrani, however, maintains her innocence, claiming that Sheena is alive and has settled elsewhere.
The case came to light in 2015, leading to the arrest of Indrani, Rai, and Khanna. Peter Mukerjea was later arrested for his alleged involvement in the conspiracy. In May 2022, Indrani Mukerjea was granted bail by the Supreme Court after spending six years in jail.
Recently, a witness in the trial testified that Sheena and her brother Mikhail had a property dispute and that Mikhail had led the witness to believe Sheena was alive between 2012 and 2015. The witness, a close friend of Sheena's from Guwahati, stated that Mikhail had confided in her that Sheena was being held against her will at a rehabilitation center in Pune by her mother. The witness also confirmed Sheena's relationship with Rahul Mukerjea during cross-examination.
The trial continues with the examination of remaining witnesses.
