An encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Doda-Udhampur border region of Jammu and Kashmir has resulted in the injury of one Army soldier. The gunfight broke out on Friday, September 19, 2025, when troops from the White Knight Corps established contact with a group of terrorists at approximately 8 p.m. during an intelligence-based operation.
According to initial reports, the encounter took place in the general area of Kishtwar. However, the Army later updated the location to the Doda-Udhampur border. The operation is ongoing in the Seoj Dhar area.
The Army, along with the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, launched a joint operation acting on specific intelligence inputs, which led to the gunfight. An Army soldier was injured in the exchange of fire and taken to a hospital.
Reinforcements, equipped with drones and sniffer dogs, were dispatched from both Udhampur and Doda to aid in the search operation. As of Saturday morning, the joint search operation has resumed, but no fresh contact with the terrorists has been made. It is believed that two to three terrorists are hiding in the forest area.
Several gunbattles have occurred in the area over the past year. On June 26, Haider, a top commander of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) who had been active in the area for the past four years, was killed in an encounter in the Dudu-Basantgarh forest. Prior to that, on April 25, an Army soldier was killed in a gunfight with terrorists hiding in the Basantgarh area.
In a separate operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police's Counter-Intelligence unit conducted extensive searches across seven districts in the Kashmir Valley – Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag, Kupwara, Handwara, Pulwama, and Shopian. The searches were related to a terror crime case, and incriminating material, including digital devices and documents, were recovered.
