A Delhi court is scheduled to hear businessman Samir Modi's bail plea on Monday. Modi was arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport on alleged rape charges and has been in custody. The arrest followed a Look Out Circular (LOC) issued by the New Friends Colony Police Station.
The First Information Report (FIR) against Modi was registered on September 10, 2025, based on a complaint by a woman who alleged a long-term relationship with Modi since 2019. She has accused him of repeated rape, threats, and cheating since 2019. The woman stated that Modi approached her with promises of career opportunities in the fashion and lifestyle industry before allegedly forcing himself on her at his residence in December 2019. She also claimed that she and her family faced constant threats if she revealed the abuse.
Modi's counsel has questioned the timing of the LOC, which was issued within five days of the FIR. According to a statement from his counsel, Advocate Simran Singh of Sakura Advisory, the allegations are "false and concocted" and are part of an extortion attempt. The legal team described the arrest as a "hasty act of the police without verifying the facts" and a "clear case of abuse of the provisions of law". The counsel claimed that the complainant demanded Rs 50 crore, presenting WhatsApp chats as evidence. Modi's counsel also stated that Modi had previously filed complaints of extortion and blackmail against the woman in August.
On Friday, a Delhi court extended Samir Modi's police custody by two days. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Deepak Vats extended the remand for custodial interrogation after the Delhi Police sought a three-day extension. The court has directed the police to inquire about the complaint filed by Samir Modi. The hearing was conducted in a closed room.
During custody, Samir Modi underwent a potency test, which returned a positive result. Under Indian law, a medical examination, including a potency test to determine the ability to engage in sexual intercourse, is standard procedure for rape accused.
Samir Modi is the brother of fugitive businessman and former IPL chief Lalit Modi. He is also the founder and Managing Director of Modicare, a direct selling company, and the Managing Director of Modi Enterprises.
