Pakistan players' '6-0' taunts: Exploring the reasons behind their Asia Cup practice behaviour toward India.

During a practice session ahead of their Asia Cup 2025 match, some Pakistani players were reportedly heard shouting "6-0" to taunt the Indian team. This behavior appears to stem from a combination of factors, including recent on-field defeats and historical tensions.

The "6-0" chant seems to reference Pakistan's unsubstantiated claim of shooting down six Indian fighter jets during a conflict, specifically "Operation Sindoor". It's also worth noting that India has won the last six matches against Pakistan across all formats. This recent dominance by India, culminating in a dismantling of Pakistan in a mere 15.5 overs in a recent match in which India chased down a target of 128 runs, likely fueled the Pakistani players' frustration. Adding to the tension, reports circulated that Indian players refused to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts after a recent match, and allegedly closed the doors to their dressing room as the Pakistani team approached.

The incident reflects the broader context of the strained relationship between India and Pakistan. Due to fraught political ties, the two countries only meet at neutral venues during multi-team tournaments. Tensions had escalated prior to the Asia Cup due to a four-day cross-border conflict in May.

Following the alleged handshake snub, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) supposedly lodged a complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) against the match referee, Andy Pycroft, accusing him of instructing the Pakistani captain, Salman Agha, not to initiate a handshake with the Indian captain, Suryakumar Yadav. The PCB reportedly demanded Pycroft's removal and threatened to boycott a match against the UAE. However, the ICC rejected these allegations, and Pycroft continued his duties.

Despite the off-field controversies, some players have attempted to downplay the tension. Kuldeep Yadav of India stated that on the field, he views the opposing players simply as batters. Agha echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of playing good cricket.

This isn't the first time Pakistan has been embroiled in controversies. Some cricket analysts suggest that Pakistan needs to focus on their game, strategies, strengths and talent, rather than focusing on things that disturb everybody around them.

Ultimately, the "6-0" incident appears to be a manifestation of frustration and an attempt to unsettle the Indian team amidst a backdrop of fierce rivalry and political tension. While some view it as unsportsmanlike, others might see it as a tactic to boost morale and intensify the competition.
