TMC Alleges BJP-Backed Goons Attacked Tripura Office in Retaliation, Video Evidence Surfaces

Tensions are escalating between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura, with both parties trading accusations of violent attacks on their respective offices and workers. The latest development involves the TMC claiming that its Tripura office in Agartala was attacked by "BJP-backed goons". This allegation comes shortly after the BJP accused TMC workers of targeting its MPs and MLAs in West Bengal.

According to the TMC, the attack on their Tripura headquarters was carried out by a large group of BJP Yuva Morcha activists. State TMC President Santanu Saha alleged that the incident occurred at the party office located in the Motor Stand area. Visuals of the alleged attack have surfaced, further fueling the political firestorm.

The BJP, however, has presented a different narrative. The party organized a protest in Agartala against the purported attack on BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh in West Bengal. Both leaders were allegedly injured while distributing relief materials. The BJP Sadar (Urban) Committee organized the rally, which commenced from Ramthakur Sangha and proceeded towards the TMC office. Eyewitnesses reported that some agitated youths attempted to attack the TMC office during the protest, but BJP Yuva Morcha president and MLA Sushanta Deb, along with Sadar (Urban) president Asim Bhattacharjee, intervened to prevent any major destruction. While some flowerpots and flex boards were damaged, their prompt action helped to control the situation, according to sources.

Tripura's BJP MP Biplab Kumar Deb has condemned the attack on the BJP leaders in West Bengal, calling it a "shameful act of political violence". He also inquired about the health of the injured leaders. Opposition leaders in Tripura have accused the BJP of "double standards," citing previous instances of political violence in the state.

This is not an isolated incident. Political clashes between the TMC and BJP have been reported in Tripura for quite some time. In August 2021, the TMC alleged that its workers were attacked by BJP members in separate incidents across Tripura. The TMC also claimed that a party office was damaged by BJP workers in the North Tripura district. At the time, BJP leaders refuted the charges, dismissing the TMC as a non-factor in Tripura and accusing the West Bengal ruling party of attempting to spread political violence in the state.

Similar incidents of violence and accusations have continued to surface. In November 2021, nineteen people were injured in a clash between BJP and TMC supporters in Teliamura town. The local administration imposed restrictions under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in certain areas to maintain law and order. Furthermore, the CPI(M) has also alleged that BJP-backed individuals vandalized their party office with a bulldozer in West Tripura.

These recurring clashes and accusations highlight the growing political friction between the BJP and TMC in Tripura. With both parties vying for influence in the state, the political atmosphere remains charged, raising concerns about further escalation and potential disruptions to peace and order.
