Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is approaching the upcoming World Cup in North America with a relaxed attitude regarding his contract situation. His current deal with the Eagles is set to expire at the end of June, and he appears likely to leave on a free transfer.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his club future, the 25-year-old center-back is determined not to let it distract him from his international ambitions. Guehi emphasized that his primary focus remains on performing well for Crystal Palace and contributing to the team's success.
"For me, it doesn't really matter, to be honest," Guehi stated. "As long as I'm playing well and helping Palace, there's definitely an opportunity for me to be here as I am today. Whether it's sorted or not, it's not really the most important thing to be honest."
Guehi insists that he prefers to take things "step by step," concentrating on his performances in Palace's games and any opportunities that arise with the club. He remains grounded despite significant interest from top clubs. He almost joined Liverpool on the last transfer deadline day, but the deal fell through. Real Madrid and Barcelona are also reportedly interested in him.
"When it happened, it was all a blur," Guehi said, referring to the growing attention. "So no difference at all. To be honest, I'm still the same young man trying to find his feet, find his way, trying to improve. Each and every day."
The defender's commitment to self-improvement remains unwavering. "I feel like I'm just really obsessed and wanting to just get better. That is my goal," he added. "There's so many experiences I can take, not just from that, but just the games that I've had over the last 12 months or so. I'm grateful to be playing in teams that are thriving."
Guehi's importance to Crystal Palace has grown significantly since joining the club in the summer of 2021. He quickly established himself as a key player, forming a strong central defensive partnership and contributing to the team's FA Cup win. In the 2024/2025 season, he captained the team on a regular basis, leading them to victory in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
His impressive performances at the club level have translated to the international stage, where he has become an important member of the England squad. Guehi played a significant role in England's journey to the final of the 2024 UEFA European Championship and also scored his first international goal in a World Cup qualifying match against Serbia.
With his focus firmly set on contributing to both Crystal Palace and England, Marc Guehi is determined not to let contract talks or transfer speculation disrupt his progress as he approaches the World Cup.
