The second meeting of the National Anti-Smuggling Coordination Centre (S-CORD) convened on October 10, 2025, at the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Headquarters, signaling a strengthened resolve in India's fight against smuggling. The meeting saw the participation of representatives from 21 key agencies across the nation, highlighting a unified approach to protecting India's economic and border security.
S-CORD serves as a unique platform, bringing together a diverse array of stakeholders under one umbrella to bolster India's anti-smuggling efforts. These stakeholders include Border Guarding forces such as SSB, ITBP, BSF, AR, CISF, CRPF, and the Indian Coast Guard. Key financial and intelligence agencies like ED, CEIB, FIU, CBI, IB, and the Cabinet Secretariat also participated, along with representatives from CBDT, DPIIT, ASI, WCCB, CDSCO, Indian Railways, and the D&ISA Division of MEA.
The discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening India's anti-smuggling efforts. The platform enables closer monitoring of evolving smuggling trends, enhanced real-time information sharing, coordinated and agile operational responses. This collaborative environment is designed to foster a unified approach to safeguard India's economic and border security.
The establishment of S-CORD was directed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, with the first meeting taking place in April 2019. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to tackling smuggling and its related detrimental effects on the nation's economy and security.
Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also urged anti-narcotics task forces (ANTFs) and central agencies to intensify actions against drug trafficking. Shah launched the Narcotics Control Bureau's (NCB) Online Drug Disposal Campaign, which resulted in the destruction of 1.37 lakh kg of narcotics, valued at Rs 4,800 crore, across 11 locations in the country. Addressing ANTF chiefs, Shah outlined a three-pronged approach adopted by the government that includes breaking supply chains, reducing demand, and harm reduction. He emphasized the necessity of expanding the fight against drug trafficking.
