Actor Akshay Oberoi has officially confirmed his participation in Shah Rukh Khan's highly anticipated film, "King," directed by Siddharth Anand. Oberoi expressed his excitement about joining the project, calling it a "dream come true" and stating that it completes his "checklist".
The news follows previous speculation sparked by Oberoi's trip to Poland, where "King" is currently being filmed. A source had confirmed that Oberoi would be shooting in the capital for a week. Oberoi himself had remained tight-lipped about his role until the recent confirmation.
In an interview, Oberoi revealed his immediate enthusiasm for the project. "Siddharth and Mamta Anand have my lifelong loyalty," he stated. "Unka jab call aaya King ke liye, maine koi sawaal nahi pucha, bas flight mein baithke pohonch gaya Poland". This translates to: "When their call came for King, I didn't ask any questions, I just boarded the flight and reached Poland".
Oberoi also shared his admiration for Shah Rukh Khan, stating that Khan has been a major inspiration to him. "Growing up, Shah Rukh Khan has been one of my biggest inspirations not just as an actor, but as someone who redefined charisma and hard work in Indian cinema,” he said. He added that being part of a film starring Khan feels surreal and that he cherishes the opportunity to experience Khan's discipline, energy, and generosity as a performer in person.
"King" marks Oberoi's third collaboration with director Siddharth Anand, following "Fighter" and the OTT series "Flesh". Oberoi expressed his special bond with Anand and his wife, Mamta, considering them family. "Also Sid and Mamta are like family to me now in this industry and when Siddharth called me to be part of this magnum opus, I had to jump in and immediately said yes. My association with them is truly special," he stated.
"King" is touted as one of Shah Rukh Khan's most ambitious ventures, marking his return to the action-thriller genre after the success of "Pathaan" and "Jawan". While official plot details are under wraps, the film is expected to showcase Khan in a never-seen-before avatar, balancing action with emotional depth. Industry sources suggest the film will explore the rise of a powerful underworld figure and the intense conflicts surrounding him.
The film also stars Shah Rukh Khan's daughter, Suhana Khan, marking their first on-screen collaboration. Abhishek Bachchan will reportedly play the antagonist. The ensemble cast includes Deepika Padukone, Jaideep Ahlawat, Anil Kapoor, and Abhay Verma.
"King" is directed by Siddharth Anand, known for directing sleek, high-octane blockbusters. The film is produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, in association with Anand's production company, Marflix Pictures.
