A 17-year-old boy drowned during Chhath Puja celebrations in Uttar Pradesh on Monday. The tragic incident occurred in Nifra village, Vindhyachal area, when five individuals went to bathe in the Ganga River around noon.
According to police reports, the group of five began to drown while bathing. Local boatmen managed to rescue three of them. However, one of the teenagers, identified as Kishan, did not survive, and another is still missing.
In a separate incident on Wednesday evening, October 22, 2025, in Raghopatti, Mau, another 17-year-old also drowned during Chhath Puja festivities. Kishan, a resident of Raghopatti under Sarailakhansi police station limits, had gone to the Tamsa riverbank with his family to build a platform for the Puja. After constructing the platform, Kishan went to the river's edge to wash the mud off his feet when he suddenly slipped and fell into the deep water.
As the teenager drowned in the deep water of the river, people started screaming. Upon receiving the information, a large number of local divers and a police team reached the spot. After hours of effort, the police and divers team recovered the body of the drowned teenager. There was a stir in the family after the body of the teenager who drowned in the river was recovered.
Kishan’s body was recovered after an extensive search by local divers and police. The discovery of his body led to immense grief and mourning in his family and the village of Raghopatti. Kishan’s father, Ramchandra, is a cycle mechanic. Police took the body into their possession and started investigation.
