Nabadwip, West Bengal: The convoy of Union Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar, was allegedly attacked on Wednesday night in Nabadwip, Nadia district. Majumdar, a former state president of the BJP in West Bengal, claimed that Trinamool Congress (TMC) activists were behind the attack.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 9 p.m. near the Nabadwip bus stand. Majumdar was in Nadia district to attend two events. The first was a protest ("police station gherao") regarding the police's conduct during the Jagaddhatri Puja immersion and Rash Mela in Nadia. Following the protest, he was scheduled to inaugurate a book stall at Rash Utsav.
Majumdar stated that as his convoy was passing through the Nabadwip area, two vehicles lagged behind and attempted to turn at the bus stand when local TMC workers allegedly attacked and vandalized them. He reported that at least two BJP leaders sustained injuries in the incident.
A senior West Bengal police officer confirmed the incident, stating that there was a commotion as the convoy passed through the Nabadwip bus stand area. Authorities are currently investigating the matter to ascertain the details of what transpired.
This alleged attack marks the fourth such incident targeting a BJP leader in West Bengal in recent weeks. Earlier incidents include an alleged attack on Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari's convoy and another on BJP MP Raju Bista's convoy in Darjeeling.
