An engineer from Uttarakhand has tragically died by suicide, reportedly due to significant financial losses incurred in the stock market. Police confirmed the incident occurred on Wednesday in the Arihant Vihar area of Haridwar.
The deceased, identified as Love Kumar, a chemical engineer, was found in a room filled with smoke. According to authorities, Kumar locked himself inside and burned coal on a heater, leading to death by asphyxiation from carbon monoxide poisoning. A suicide note recovered from the scene revealed that financial difficulties and a property dispute drove him to take this extreme step.
Senior Sub-Inspector Satyendra Bhandari from Kankhal police station reported that Kumar's family became concerned after he sent a WhatsApp message to his wife indicating his intent to commit suicide. His wife, who had been staying with her parents along with their children due to domestic issues, tried to contact him but received no response. The family rushed to his location and alerted the police.
Investigations revealed that Kumar had been under considerable mental stress. He had invested in the stock market and suffered heavy losses, leading to financial strain and a subsequent addiction to alcohol. These issues reportedly contributed to his personal problems, resulting in his wife leaving him.
SP City Abhay Pratap Singh stated that a post-mortem examination would determine the precise cause of death and further investigations are underway.
This incident highlights the serious consequences of financial instability and mental health challenges. It also underscores the importance of seeking help and support during times of crisis. Resources are available for individuals struggling with financial difficulties, mental health issues, or suicidal thoughts.
