Former Eastern Command chief, Lt Gen R P Kalita, has issued a strong warning regarding the growing security challenges facing India, emphasizing the need for constant vigilance. Lt Gen Kalita expressed serious concerns about the "growing presence of fundamentalist forces in Bangladesh… hostile to India's interests, especially in the North East".
