Red Fort Blast Tragedy: Injured Victim Dies at LNJP Hospital, Increasing the Death Toll to Thirteen.

New Delhi: The death toll from the car explosion near the Red Fort earlier this week has tragically risen to 13, after another injured individual succumbed to their injuries at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital. The blast, which occurred on Monday evening near the Lal Quila metro station, has prompted a high-level investigation and heightened security measures in the area.

The explosion, believed to have been caused by a car bomb, occurred around 6:52 PM on November 10, 2025, near a busy area close to the Red Fort, a historical landmark in Old Delhi. The impact of the blast damaged several vehicles in the vicinity. Initially, reports indicated eight fatalities, but the number has steadily climbed as more of the injured have passed away. Over 20 people were injured in the incident and were immediately rushed to LNJP Hospital, a few kilometers from the blast site.

Following the blast, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) handed over the investigation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), signaling the government's view of the incident as a potential act of terror. The NIA is an anti-terror agency responsible for investigating terror-related cases.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was in Bhutan at the time of the incident, spoke with Home Minister Amit Shah to assess the situation. Modi affirmed that the perpetrators of the blast would not be spared. The Union Cabinet has also condemned the incident as a "terrorist incident" and has vowed to deliver swift justice.

The authorities have closed the Red Fort to the public for three days following the explosion. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) also closed the Lal Qila Metro station on the Violet Line due to security concerns.

The investigation is currently focused on determining the cause of the blast. Initial investigations suggest that a doctor from Pulwama may have been the sole occupant of the vehicle. Security agencies are investigating Dr. Umar Nabi, believing he was driving the car. A red Ford EcoSport, believed to be linked to Dr. Nabi, has been seized by Faridabad police in Haryana. Forensic teams are analyzing samples collected from the bodies and the exploded car.

The incident has drawn international attention, with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressing condolences and solidarity with India. The United Nations also extended condolences to the Indian government and its people, emphasizing the need for a full investigation.
