Actress Upasana Singh Reveals Sunil Grover's Struggles Before Comedy Fame
In a recent interview, actress Upasana Singh shared details about comedian Sunil Grover's difficult journey before he achieved widespread recognition on shows like "Comedy Nights with Kapil" and "The Kapil Sharma Show". Singh revealed that Grover was hospitalized due to depression and faced a period of limited work opportunities before landing his breakthrough role on Kapil Sharma's show.
Singh, known for her role as "Bua" on "The Kapil Sharma Show," disclosed this information in a conversation with Lallantop Cinema. She recounted that when Grover initially joined the show, his slow pace and delivery led the creative team to consider replacing him. They felt he couldn't keep up with the rest of the cast. However, Singh staunchly defended him, recognizing his talent and potential. "When he initially came in, he spoke very slowly," Singh explained. "The creative team felt he wouldn't be able to deliver and that he couldn't match the pace of the rest of the cast... I told them, and Sunil and everyone else know this, that he's an excellent actor and they should keep him".
Singh further revealed that Grover was "emotionally fragile" and struggling with his mental health at the time. "When Kapil's show began, he wasn't well," she said. "I asked him what happened, and he told me he had been hospitalised due to depression. He didn't have much work at the time". She recalled a time when Grover visited her house with Kapil Sharma, and she barely recognized him because he seemed downtrodden and lacked hope due to his limited work.
Despite these challenges, Grover's talent eventually shone through. He went on to create iconic characters such as Gutthi, Dr. Mashoor Gulati, and Rinku Bhabhi, becoming a household name and one of India's most beloved comic actors. His ability to connect with audiences and deliver humor with emotional depth made him a favorite among viewers of all ages. Before his television breakthrough, Grover gained popularity through his radio show "Hansi Ke Phavarre," which was well-received in metropolitan cities.
While Grover and Sharma's off-screen disagreements have occasionally made headlines, their on-screen chemistry has captivated fans for years. After a hiatus, the two comedians reunited for "The Great Indian Kapil Show" on Netflix, marking a fresh start for their professional relationship. The show recently concluded its third season and is currently on a break. Grover has also been seen in the recently released "Dabba Cartel".
