Bihar Poll Fallout: Congress Holds 43 Leaders Accountable for Alleged Anti-Party Conduct After Election.

Patna, November 18, 2025 – In the aftermath of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the Congress party has initiated disciplinary action against 43 of its leaders for alleged anti-party activities. The Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee's disciplinary panel has served show-cause notices to these leaders, demanding a written explanation by November 21, 2025. Failure to comply could result in expulsion from the party for six years.

The disciplinary committee, chaired by Kapildev Prasad Yadav, stated that the leaders are accused of making statements in the media and on public platforms that contradicted the party's official position during the election period. These statements are believed to have damaged the party's image and electoral prospects. The committee emphasized that party unity and discipline are paramount and that any act perceived as undermining the organization would be dealt with seriously.

Those issued notices include former ministers, former Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), former Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs), and former office-bearers. Some of the prominent names are former ministers Afaq Alam and Veena Shahi, AICC member Madhurendra Kumar Singh, former spokespersons Anand Madhav, Ashok Gagan, and Suraj Sinha, ex-general secretary of state Congress Kaisar Khan, former MLAs Chhatrapati Yadav, Sudhir Kumar, and Gajanand Shahi, former MLC Ajay Kumar Singh, former Youth Congress presidents Raj Kumar Rajan and Nagendra Paswan Vikal, and former state Congress vice-president Sakheelur Rahman.

The move comes after the Congress party's dismal performance in the Bihar Assembly elections, where it won only 6 out of the 61 seats it contested. This was the party's second-worst performance in Bihar, after the 2010 elections. The party contested the elections as part of the Mahagathbandhan alliance, along with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

Prior to the issuance of show cause notices, several of these Congress leaders had demanded the resignation of State Congress President Rajesh Ram. They had also called for the central leadership to replace AICC Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru, citing mismanagement and confusion that harmed the party's prospects. These leaders had announced plans to stage a sit-in at the state Congress Headquarters in Patna on November 22 and visit Delhi on November 24 to press their demands.

The Bihar Assembly elections saw the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secure a sweeping victory. Nitish Kumar is expected to take oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for a record tenth time on November 20.
