Ambala, November 27, 2025 – A devastating cylinder blast in Ambala has claimed the lives of a mother and child, according to police reports. The incident occurred late Friday night in New Shakti Nagar, Tangri Bundh area of Ambala Cantonment, triggering a massive fire that has now been brought under control.
The deceased have been identified as Fazal, 47, and Dilshad, 45, natives of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. Initial reports indicate that seven people were present in the two-room house when the explosion took place. Preliminary investigations suggest the residents were making tea on a small cylinder, which may have led to the blast. However, the precise cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
The impact of the blast was severe, causing extensive damage to the house. The explosion was so powerful that the house was completely damaged. Nearby shopkeepers likened the blast to a bomb explosion.
In addition to the two fatalities, five others, including a minor boy, sustained injuries in the incident. All the injured were immediately rushed to the civil hospital in Ambala for treatment. Two of the injured were referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh, for advanced medical care.
Local police and fire services responded swiftly to the scene, working to contain the fire and conduct rescue operations. Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Satendra Siwach is closely monitoring the situation and ensuring that all necessary assistance is provided to the victims and their families.
"The accident took place in New Shakti Nagar of Ambala. A house was shattered after a loud explosion," stated SHO Jagdish Mahesh Nagar. He further added that the residents of the house were from Khatauli, Uttar Pradesh, and were engaged in scrap dealing in Ambala.
Authorities are currently investigating the matter to determine the exact cause of the cylinder blast and to assess any potential negligence. Evidence is being collected from the blast site to aid the investigation.
This incident follows a similar cylinder explosion in September 2023 in the Shahzadpur market of Ambala district, where a six-year-old child was among three people who suffered serious burns. These recurring incidents raise concerns about safety standards and the need for stricter regulations concerning the storage and handling of gas cylinders.
