Goa Nightclub Inferno: Live Updates on Arpora Tragedy, PM Modi Expresses Grief and Concern.

Arpora, Goa: A devastating fire at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, Goa, has claimed the lives of at least 25 people and left approximately 50 injured. The blaze, suspected to have been triggered by a cylinder blast, broke out shortly after midnight on Sunday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow over the tragedy, calling the incident "deeply saddening". In a post on X, he conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased, and Rs 50,000 for the injured.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who visited the site, described the incident as "unfortunate" for a tourism-dependent state like Goa. He has ordered a detailed inquiry into the cause of the fire, assuring that those found responsible for any negligence will face the strictest legal action. Sawant also stated that the state government is providing all possible assistance to those affected.

According to the Goa Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar, the fire broke out around 12:04 am. Fire and emergency teams were immediately dispatched and battled the blaze through the night. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals. The DGP confirmed that the fire is now under control and all bodies have been recovered.

Initial reports indicate that many of the victims were staff members working at the nightclub. Goa Police confirmed that among the deceased are four tourists and 14 staff members, while the identities of seven victims are yet to be ascertained. Six people are reported to be injured and are receiving treatment.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that a cylinder blast inside the establishment triggered the massive fire. A security guard near the site reported hearing a "massive explosion". Videos circulating on social media depict a large fire engulfing the nightclub, with thick smoke billowing from the scene.

BJP MLA Michael Lobo expressed his concern and emphasized the need for a safety audit of all clubs in Goa. An FIR has been registered for culpable homicide in connection with the incident.
