Madhya Pradesh Crash: Trainee Aircraft Down After Power Line Strike, Two Injured in Incident.

A training aircraft crashed in Madhya Pradesh's Seoni district on Monday evening after hitting a high-voltage power line, injuring the pilot and flight instructor. The incident occurred around 6:25 p.m. near Amagon village, approximately 2 kilometers from the Suktara airstrip on National Highway-44.

The aircraft, belonging to Redbird Flight Training Academy, had taken off from Sukatra airstrip and was returning when the accident occurred. According to academy representatives, the aircraft's engine stopped generating power, leading to a sudden descent and collision with a 33kV high-tension wire of the Badalpar substation. The lower part of the aircraft struck the power line, causing it to snap and the plane to crash in an agricultural field.

The pilot, Ajit Chawda, and the flight instructor, Ajit Anthony, sustained injuries and were immediately taken to a private hospital in Barapathar near Seoni city. While one suffered a head injury, the other had facial injuries; however, both were able to walk out of the aircraft and are reported to be out of danger.

The collision with the power line caused a loud explosion and sparks, alarming local residents. The incident also resulted in a disruption of electricity supply to approximately 90 villages in the Badalpar and Gwari sub-station areas. Staff from the Madhya Pradesh East Zone Electricity Distribution Company, along with villagers and police, rushed to the scene to rescue the injured and begin restoration efforts.

C.S. Tekam, an Investigation Officer at Kurai Police Station, informed that the aircraft was a two-seater training plane. Preliminary investigations suggest that a technical glitch caused the plane to descend unexpectedly, leading to one of its wheels becoming entangled in the high-voltage line. The impact severed the wire, causing a loud noise and spark.

Seoni Superintendent of Police Sunil Mehta stated that a team was dispatched to the crash site. Ramlal Uike, Sarpanch of Amgaon Panchayat, reported hearing a loud explosion and seeing sparks when the aircraft's wings touched the power line.

Some local residents claimed that similar incidents had occurred in the past, with training aircraft reportedly overturning twice previously while using the local runway. They expressed concern that a longer entanglement with the power lines could have resulted in a more severe accident. Authorities have stated that the training company has been operating in the area since 2023. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.
