Delhi Detention Follows Deadly Goa Nightclub Fire
Ajay Gupta, a co-owner of the 'Birch by Romeo Lane' nightclub in Goa, has been detained in Delhi in connection to the fire that claimed 25 lives. The detention occurred on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, days after the tragic incident.
The Goa Police had issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) for Gupta and Surinder Kumar Khosla, another owner, in the wake of the fire. Khosla is identified as a British citizen. According to a police official, the LOC was issued after a police team was unable to locate Gupta at his Delhi residence.
The fire broke out at the nightclub, located in Arpora, North Goa, around midnight on Saturday, December 6, 2025. The incident resulted in the deaths of 25 people and left many injured.
Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident, with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant ordering strict action against the club and officials found to be in violation of safety regulations.
Gupta's detention marks the sixth arrest made in connection with the case. Prior to Gupta, five individuals were apprehended: Rajiv Modak (Chief General Manager), Vivek Singh (General Manager), Rajiv Singhania (Bar Manager), Riyanshu Thakur (Gate Manager), and Bharat Kohli.
Meanwhile, two other owners of the nightclub, Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, are currently absconding. Reports indicate the Luthra brothers may have fled to Thailand. A blue corner notice has been issued against them.
The police are currently completing the formalities required to transfer Gupta to Goa, where he will be formally arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
