J&K LG Appoints Kin of Nowgam Blast Victims: Providing Support and Recognition to Affected Families.

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha met with the families of the victims of the Nowgam police station blast on Friday, December 12, 2025, and presented them with job appointment letters. The blast, which occurred on November 14, 2025, at the Nowgam Police Station in Srinagar, resulted in the deaths of nine people, including a Naib Tehsildar, a police inspector, six other employees, and a civilian tailor.

During the meeting, Lieutenant Governor Sinha paid tribute to the deceased and expressed his gratitude to their families, assuring them that the nation stands with them to ensure they live a life of comfort and dignity. He emphasized the administration's commitment to supporting the bereaved families.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police stated that the blast was accidental, resulting from explosive material. According to the police, the explosive material had been seized from Faridabad from Dr. Muzamil Shakeel Ganai, who is accused of running an interstate terror module with links to the Delhi blast on November 10. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is currently investigating these links and has arrested eight individuals, including three doctors from Kashmir and one doctor from Uttar Pradesh, along with their alleged associates. However, political parties and the elected government have called for an investigation into potential lapses in the handling of the explosives. Following the blast, the government formed a high-level committee to investigate the incident.

Lieutenant Governor Sinha commended the Jammu and Kashmir Police for their efforts in thwarting terrorism by uncovering and dismantling a terror network the previous month. He lauded the police for their thorough investigation and multifaceted approach to detecting, disrupting, and preventing terrorist acts. He also instructed senior officers to disrupt terrorist financing channels and counter radicalization attempts by certain separatist elements.

Several senior officials were present at the event, including Special DG Coordination PHQ S.J.M. Gillani, Principal Secretary Home Chandraker Bharti, ADGP CID Nitish Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor Mandeep K. Bhandari, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg, IGP Kashmir Shri VK Birdi, DIG CKR Shri Rajiv Pandey, SSP Srinagar GV Sundeep Chakravarthy, and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo.
