Nitin Nabin of Bihar Appointed as Working President of BJP State Unit, Taking on Key Leadership Role

In a significant move signaling a potential generational shift within the party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Nitin Nabin, a Bihar minister, as its National Working President. The decision, which took effect immediately, was announced by BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh following approval by the party's Parliamentary Board. This appointment places the 45-year-old leader at the center of internal succession discussions and sparks speculation about him potentially succeeding J.P. Nadda as the party's full-time national president. If formally elected, Nabin would become the youngest president of the party.

Nabin's elevation marks a pivotal moment in the BJP's organizational trajectory. J.P. Nadda, who assumed office in January 2020, has already completed his full term, receiving extensions to lead the party through the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded Nabin as a dedicated party worker with deep organizational roots, expressing confidence that his energy and commitment will further strengthen the party.

Born on May 23, 1980, in Ranchi, Jharkhand, Nitin Nabin hails from a family deeply embedded in politics. He is the son of the late Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, a veteran BJP leader and former MLA. Nabin's political journey began after his father's demise, and he steadily ascended through the party ranks. A five-time MLA representing the Bankipur Assembly constituency in Patna, he first entered the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2006 through a by-election. He has successfully retained the seat in the subsequent elections of 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025. In the 2025 Bihar Assembly polls, Nabin secured a decisive victory from Bankipur, winning by a margin of over 52,000 votes.

Nabin currently serves as the Minister of Road Construction in the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government. He has held multiple ministerial portfolios in the Bihar government, including Minister of Urban Development & Housing and Minister of Law & Justice. He previously served as Minister of Road Construction from February 2021 to August 2022 and was reappointed to the same position in February 2025.

Beyond his ministerial responsibilities, Nabin has held several key organizational positions within the BJP. He has worked extensively with the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), serving as its National General Secretary and State President of BJYM Bihar. He has also served as the party's in-charge for Chhattisgarh and Sikkim. His role in the party's revival in Chhattisgarh has been particularly praised. He was also appointed Election Incharge for both the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Sikkim in 2019 and BJP Election Incharge for the Lok Sabha elections in Chhattisgarh in 2024.

Nabin's appointment as the National Working President underscores the BJP's focus on organizational strength and its strategic recalibration as it seeks to fortify its national political framework. His extensive experience within the party, coupled with his ministerial roles, positions him as a key figure in the BJP's future.
