The mortal remains of veteran Malayalam actor, screenwriter, and filmmaker Sreenivasan, who passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the age of 69, will be kept at the Ernakulam Town Hall for public tribute. The actor's body arrived at Ernakulam Town Hall where the public can pay their last respects between 1 pm and 3 pm.
Sreenivasan, a celebrated figure in Malayalam cinema, died in a Kochi hospital after a prolonged illness. He had been suffering from cardiac and other ailments. His death marks the end of an era for Malayalam cinema, where he left an indelible mark through his acting, screenwriting, and filmmaking.
The actor's body was shifted from the Government Taluk Hospital, Thripunithura, to his residence in Kandanad, near Thripunithura, Ernakulam. Prior to being moved to Ernakulam Town Hall, his mortal remains were kept at his residence. The last rites will be held at 10 am on December 21 at his residence premises.
Sreenivasan's passing has been met with an outpouring of grief and tributes from actors, filmmakers, singers, technicians, and fans alike. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed that Sreenivasan's demise is an irreparable loss to Malayalam cinema, noting his ability to connect with all aspects of filmmaking and his success in portraying the life of the common man on screen through humor and thought-provoking ideas.
Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth also expressed their sorrow. Rajinikanth, in a voice message, remembered Sreenivasan as a remarkable actor and exceptional person, a peer from his time at the film institute. Kavya Madhavan shared on Instagram that Sreenivasan stood by her like a guardian from her very first film and thanked him for the unforgettable moments of care and affection. Actor Urvashi told reporters she had huge respect and love for Sreenivasan, who earnestly wanted her to excel in her work and wrote the best of her characters in films. Murali Gopy noted that Sreenivasan's humour peeled away pretence and forced laughter. Basil Joseph said Sreenivasan was a big part of their childhood memories and would live on through his work.
Sreenivasan is survived by his wife, Vimala Sreenivasan, and his two sons, Vineeth Sreenivasan and Dhyan Sreenivasan, both of whom are also actors.
