In a recent interview, veteran actor Piyush Mishra sparked a buzz when he referred to Ranbir Kapoor as "itna nanga besharam aadmi". However, the seemingly controversial statement was far from an insult; it was, in fact, a unique compliment, which Mishra has now affirmed. Days after the comment gained traction, Mishra clarified his words, explaining his admiration for Kapoor's carefree spirit and how the actor carries himself without the burden of his family's immense legacy.
Mishra's initial statement, made during a conversation with The Lallantop, was delivered with a touch of humor. He said, "Arre, don't even ask — that guy is something else… Itna nanga besharam aadmi maine aaj tak nahi dekha! (I have never seen such a carefree person in my life)". He elaborated on this seemingly audacious description, noting that Kapoor "comes from such a long, long legacy – his father, his grandfather, his great-grandfather, all the way back to Prithviraj Kapoor. But none of that burdens him. Not even 1%".
Mishra, who has worked with Ranbir Kapoor in Imtiaz Ali's "Rockstar" (2011) and "Tamasha" (2015), observed that Kapoor is dedicated and serious during shooting. However, once the camera stops rolling, he becomes "completely light, completely free," seemingly untouched by the weight of his family's iconic status in Bollywood.
The actor's perspective provides a refreshing take on the topic of nepotism, which is often debated within the Indian film industry. Mishra's praise suggests that Ranbir Kapoor has carved his own path, earning recognition through his talent and hard work, rather than simply relying on his family name. Mishra's words highlight Kapoor's ability to remain grounded and focused on his craft, despite his lineage.
Mishra had previously lauded Kapoor for not throwing tantrums or demanding excessive attention, setting him apart from other Bollywood actors. He criticized the "strange kind of stardom that Bollywood actors have," pointing out their large entourages and perceived need for constant attention. Mishra questioned the necessity of such behavior, contrasting it with Kapoor's down-to-earth demeanor.
In the same interview where he discussed Kapoor, Mishra also spoke fondly of his late colleague, Irrfan Khan, with whom he starred in "Haasil". He expressed sorrow over Khan's early death, acknowledging him as "such a great actor".
Ranbir Kapoor is currently preparing for his role as Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari's "Ramayana". He is also slated to appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Love & War" alongside his wife, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal.
