Donald Trump has once again asserted that he prevented a potential nuclear war between India and Pakistan, claiming that Pakistani leadership credited him with saving millions of lives. He made the remarks at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, while accompanied by Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, Navy Secretary John Phelan, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Trump stated, "We stopped a potential nuclear war between Pakistan and India. And the head of Pakistan, a highly respected General, he's a Field Marshal and also the Prime Minister of Pakistan, said President Trump saved 10 million lives, maybe more...".

This is not the first time Trump has made such claims. In the past, he has stated on multiple occasions that he intervened to de-escalate tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. He has even gone so far as to say he stopped the conflict "with phone calls and trade". According to Trump, he warned both nations they would lose US trade if the conflict escalated. He has also claimed that Pakistan shot down seven Indian jets during the tensions.

However, India has consistently denied any third-party intervention in resolving the issues with Pakistan. New Delhi has rejected Trump's claims that he helped settle tensions, which he has reportedly repeated more than 60 times.

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated earlier this year following the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the death of 26 civilians. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the attack. This led to a series of retaliatory actions, including air strikes and drone attacks.

Trump announced on May 10 that India and Pakistan had agreed to a "full and immediate" ceasefire after a "long night" of talks mediated by Washington. Since then, he has repeatedly claimed credit for de-escalating the situation.

In June 2025, Trump stated that he stopped a war between India and Pakistan "with trade," adding that "Pakistan, now, it was their turn to hit, and eventually they're going to go nuclear". He claimed to have made personal calls to both Indian and Pakistani leaders at the height of the tensions, saying, "I called each leader, I respect them greatly...They understood it exactly. They stopped".

While Trump maintains that his intervention prevented a nuclear war, India's continued denial of any third-party involvement casts doubt on the accuracy of his claims. The situation remains complex, with differing accounts from key players involved.
