Matty Beniers of the Kraken Reaches Milestone: Achieving 100th NHL Assist in Impressive Career

Seattle, WA – Seattle Kraken forward Matty Beniers reached a significant milestone in his NHL career, recording his 100th assist on Tuesday, December 23rd. The assist came on a power-play goal scored by team captain Jordan Eberle during the Kraken's game.

Beniers, a cornerstone of the Kraken franchise, continues to be a key player for the team. Drafted second overall by the Kraken in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Beniers quickly made his mark in the league. He signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Kraken on April 10, 2022, and showcased his talent immediately. His first NHL goal came shortly after, in an April 16th game against the New Jersey Devils.

In his first full season, Beniers represented the Kraken at the 2023 NHL All-Star Game and was later named the NHL's Rookie of the Year, winning the Calder Memorial Trophy. That year, he led all rookies in points with 57, tying for the lead in goals with 24. Recognizing his importance to the team's future, the Kraken signed Beniers to a 7-year, $50 million contract extension on August 20, 2024.

This season, Beniers continues to be a vital part of the Kraken's offense. Through the season, he has demonstrated consistent performance, contributing both goals and assists. His playmaking abilities have been particularly notable, making him a valuable asset on the team's top line, often playing alongside Jaden Schwartz and Kaapo Kakko.

The Kraken are currently navigating the season with some challenges on the defensive end, with injuries impacting key players. However, the team has shown resilience, with recent wins demonstrating their ability to compete within the Pacific Division.

Beyond Beniers' individual achievement, Eberle also marked his 200th point with Seattle in the same game. The Kraken won the game against the Kings 3-2.

Looking ahead, Beniers is expected to continue playing a crucial role for the Kraken. His offensive capabilities and defensive awareness make him a player to watch as the team progresses through the season.
