Sri Lanka, after being put in to bat first, struggled to build momentum and could only manage a score of 112 for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Renuka Singh Thakur spearheaded the Indian bowling attack, claiming an impressive four-wicket haul, while Deepti Sharma provided excellent support, taking three wickets for 18 runs.

Returning to the side, Renuka Singh (4/21) made an immediate impact with the new ball, disrupting Sri Lanka's top order and swinging the momentum in India's favor.
