India Women Clinch T20I Series Against Sri Lanka Comfortably With an Impressive Eight-Wicket Victory

In a dominant display of skill and teamwork, India Women defeated Sri Lanka Women by eight wickets in the third T20I, securing an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. The match, held in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday, saw India Women outclassing their opponents in all departments, continuing their strong form in white-ball cricket.

Sri Lanka, after being put in to bat first, struggled to build momentum and could only manage a score of 112 for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Renuka Singh Thakur spearheaded the Indian bowling attack, claiming an impressive four-wicket haul, while Deepti Sharma provided excellent support, taking three wickets for 18 runs.

Returning to the side, Renuka Singh (4/21) made an immediate impact with the new ball, disrupting Sri Lanka's top order and swinging the momentum in India's favor. Deepti Sharma's timely breakthroughs further solidified India's control over the game. With this performance, Deepti reached a milestone, becoming the first player in women's cricket to claim over 150 wickets in both ODIs and T20Is. She also joined Australia's Megan Schutt as the highest wicket-taker in women's T20Is with 151 wickets.

Chasing a modest target, India Women exhibited their batting prowess, reaching 115/2 in just 13.2 overs. Shafali Verma led the charge with an explosive, unbeaten 79 off 42 balls, which included three sixes and 11 fours. Her aggressive approach and skillful execution dismantled the Sri Lankan bowling attack, ensuring a swift victory for her team.

Shafali Verma picked up where she left off in the previous match, displaying her intent with a towering six over long-off, followed by consecutive boundaries. Her second consecutive half-century was a testament to her excellent form and confidence.

The victory not only sealed the series for India but also highlighted their comprehensive dominance. India had previously won the first match by eight wickets and the second by seven wickets in Visakhapatnam, showcasing their all-round strength and adaptability. With this win, India has taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. This series win further solidifies India's position as a leading force in women's cricket, as they continue their preparations for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup in England. Renuka Singh was named Player of the Match for her outstanding bowling performance.
