The first teaser trailer for the upcoming John Madden biopic, simply titled "Madden," has been released by Prime Video, showcasing Nicolas Cage and Christian Bale in strikingly different transformations. The film, directed by David O. Russell, chronicles the life and legacy of the iconic NFL coach-turned-broadcaster and video game pioneer.
Cage, 60, takes on the titular role of John Madden, undergoing a dramatic physical transformation to embody the larger-than-life personality. The teaser highlights Cage's dedication to the role, showcasing glimpses of him as Madden during his coaching days with the Oakland Raiders, furiously diagramming plays. Bale, 51, stars as Al Davis, the Raiders' enigmatic owner, sporting a look that captures Davis's intensity.
"Madden" aims to capture every major chapter of John Madden's career. After a decade as head coach of the Oakland Raiders, leading them to a Super Bowl victory in 1976, Madden transitioned into broadcasting, becoming one of the most recognizable and beloved television analysts in NFL history. The film also stars John Mulaney as Trip Hawkins, Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden, Sienna Miller as Carol Davis, and Joel Murray as Pat Summerall. Shane Gillis is also part of the cast in an undisclosed role.
