In anticipation of the January 1, 2026 theatrical release of "Ikkis," Agastya Nanda, who plays the lead role, has emphasized the crucial role the film's music played in his understanding of his character, Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal. The Sriram Raghavan-directed war drama tells the inspiring true story of Khetarpal, the youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra, who was martyred at the young age of 21 during the 1971 Indo-Pak War.
Nanda expressed that the music has been truly overwhelming and was vital in helping him connect with his character's emotional journey. He stated that listening to the complete album felt like revisiting honest and emotional moments on set that were very close to his heart. The film's soundtrack includes memorable songs like "Sitaare", "Ban Ke Dikha Ikkis", "Tera Aashiq", and "Sajda".
"Sitaare," sung by Arijit Singh, has already been released and offers a glimpse into the chemistry between Agastya Nanda and Simar Bhatia, who plays his love interest in the film. Nanda described "Sitaare" as the emotional heartbeat of the story, providing a sense of calm and love before his character's life takes a dramatic turn. Bhatia echoed Nanda's sentiments, adding that each track feels deeply emotional and purposeful, becoming a part of the characters and enhancing the film.
The final trailer, launched by Abhishek Bachchan, highlights battlefield bravery, resolve, and heroism. Nanda's portrayal captures the soldier's fearlessness and emotional strength. The film also stars Jaideep Ahlawat, late Dharmendra, Sikander Kher, and Simar Bhatia. Dharmendra's presence in the film is particularly special, marking his final on-screen role after a career spanning over sixty years.
Agastya Nanda, the grandson of Amitabh Bachchan, also shared his excitement when he first got the role in "Ikkis" at the age of 21. He was inspired by the bravery of Arun Khetarpal and wanted to be braver in his own life. While preparing for the role, Nanda emphasized the importance of being authentic to Khetarpal's character and the events he experienced.
Amitabh Bachchan has already seen the film and praised Agastya's performance, noting his maturity, unfiltered honesty, and the perfection in every shot. He expressed immense pride in his grandson's portrayal of Arun Khetarpal, a soldier who defended the nation during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
"Ikkis" is directed by Sriram Raghavan and produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films. The film's music is expected to deeply resonate with audiences, enhancing the emotional impact of this war drama.
