In the wake of escalating violence against the Hindu minority in Bangladesh, Indian YouTuber and Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner Elvish Yadav has voiced strong concerns, stating that the issue "needs serious attention". His statement follows a series of disturbing events, including the recent lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu man who was brutally murdered after being accused of blasphemy.

On December 18, 2025, Dipu Chandra Das was beaten, hanged, and set ablaze by a mob in Bhaluka, Bangladesh, after allegations surfaced that he made derogatory remarks about Islam during a factory event. The incident occurred against a backdrop of increasing unrest following an attack on student leader Sharif Osman Hadi. Hadi, a key figure in the 2024 protests that led to the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, died from gunshot wounds sustained during an assassination attempt, further inflaming tensions.

Yadav's intervention comes amid growing condemnation from various quarters. Following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina in August 2024, attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh have increased, with homes, businesses, and places of worship being targeted. The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council reported over 2,000 incidents of attacks on minorities in a span of just 16 days in August 2024.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has also responded strongly to the recent violence, asserting that these incidents cannot be dismissed as mere "media exaggerations or dismissed as political violence". MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal conveyed India's grave concern over the "unremitting hostilities against minorities in Bangladesh, including Hindus, Christians and Buddhists". He specifically condemned the killing of Dipu Chandra Das and demanded that the perpetrators be brought to justice.

Independent sources have documented over 2,900 incidents of violence against minorities during the tenure of the interim government. These incidents include killings, arson, and land grabbing.

The lynching of Dipu Chandra Das is a stark example of the escalating crisis. Accused of insulting Islam during a World Arabic Language Day event at the Pioneer Knit Composite Factory, Das was attacked by a mob of 140-150 people. Videos circulating on social media showed the mob chanting Islamic slogans while attacking Das.

In February 2025, The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council appealed to the Bangladesh government to investigate the deaths of 23 individuals, labelling these as minority persecution.

Elvish Yadav's recent expression of concern echoes his previous appeals to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2024, urging the Indian government to ensure the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh amidst ongoing revolts and political chaos. At that time, Sheikh Hasina had resigned and reportedly fled the country, leaving it under military control.

The situation remains tense, with reports of continued attacks, looting, and vandalism targeting minority communities. The international community is watching closely as Bangladesh grapples with political instability and the safety and security of its minority populations.
