Lucknow, December 27, 2025 – Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today launched the AI-based "YAKSH" app at a two-day conference of senior police officers, marking a significant step towards modernizing law enforcement in the state. The app is designed to bolster policing and preventive law enforcement by leveraging artificial intelligence and big data analytics.
The conference, dubbed "Police Manthan," is addressing critical challenges facing the police force, including cybercrime, human trafficking, and the increasing complexities of social media. The UP Police stated in a post on X that the conference includes 11 sessions where officers will collaborate to define strategic priorities and create a future roadmap for policing in Uttar Pradesh.
DGP Rajeev Krishna emphasized the conference's objective to strengthen people-centric policing, develop a technology-based modern policing system, and ensure effective and swift action against crime and criminals. He also noted that this conference format replaces the traditional annual "Police Week" to allow for more focused, outcome-oriented discussions.
The newly launched YAKSH app functions as a digital version of the traditional beat book, utilizing AI and big data analytics to maintain comprehensive data on crimes, criminals, and sensitive areas. It aims to simplify the daily tasks of beat personnel through various features, including station-wise offender databases, beat-level verification, AI-based suspect identification, voice search, and gang-link analysis. The app also provides location-shift alerts to track the movement of habitual offenders.
Chief Minister Adityanath stressed the importance of technology as a force multiplier for policing, stating that the new system will enable the police to identify crime patterns early, monitor suspicious activities efficiently, and take timely preventive action. UP Police officials believe the YAKSH app will significantly improve intelligence gathering and coordination at the ground level.
The YAKSH app is designed as a comprehensive database of criminals at the police station level, enabling real-time monitoring and analysis. The platform promotes accountability in beat verification and uses AI for suspect identification.
The launch of the YAKSH app aligns with the Uttar Pradesh government's broader initiative to promote smart policing, digital governance, and a zero-tolerance policy towards crime. The state hopes to strengthen law and order and build greater public trust in the police system through this initiative.
ADG (Crime) S.K. Bhagat led a session that focused on solving grassroots policing issues and highlighted the AI and Big Data-driven capabilities of the YAKSH app in providing a comprehensive data map of crimes, criminals, and sensitive areas for targeted action. ADG (Technical Services) Naveen Arora discussed making policing data-driven under the new criminal codes, focusing on e-FIR, Zero FIR, e-Summon, and e-Sakshya.
In related news, the Uttar Pradesh Police are also utilizing another AI-powered tool called Crime GPT, developed in partnership with Staqu Technologies, to streamline data analysis for criminal cases. Crime GPT assists in analyzing CCTV footage, images, and audio, offering features like facial recognition, voice analysis, and criminal profiling to help solve cases faster. Prashant Kumar, Director General of Police for Uttar Pradesh, has emphasized Crime GPT's ability to expedite information retrieval, which will greatly aid ongoing criminal investigations, streamline procedural formalities, and accelerate case resolutions.
