GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Miami RedHawks secured third place at the Great Lakes Invitational (GLI) with a 4-2 victory over the Ferris State Bulldogs on Monday evening. The RedHawks improved their overall record to 11-7-2.
David Deputy led the scoring for Miami with two goals, including the opening and closing goals of the game. Max Helgeson and Ryder Thompson also contributed goals for the RedHawks. Thompson's goal was the first of his collegiate career. Goaltender Mathis Langevin, making his first collegiate start, played a pivotal role in the win, stopping 30 of 32 shots.
Deputy opened the scoring early in the game, showcasing his speed and skill to give Miami an initial lead. However, the lead was short-lived as Jacob Badal of Ferris State responded to even the score later in the first period.
In the second period, Helgeson capitalized on a rebound to regain the lead for Miami. Thompson then extended Miami's lead with his first collegiate goal. Ferris State's Max Itagaki managed to narrow the gap, but Deputy's second goal of the game sealed the victory for the RedHawks. Ferris State's goalie, Hobie Hedquist, made 18 saves on 21 shots.
Miami's path to the third-place game followed a 5-2 loss to Michigan Tech in the GLI semifinal. Michael Quinn and Ryan Smith scored for Miami in that game, with Smith recording a multi-point performance. Matteo Drobac made 28 saves in the game against Michigan Tech.
The RedHawks went 9-1-0 in non-conference play. Prior to the GLI, Miami won the Belpot Trophy at the 2025 Friendship Four in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
