Anu Malik has addressed concerns regarding song credits for "Ghar Kab Aaoge" from the upcoming film Border 2, clarifying that he has been duly credited by Bhushan Kumar. The song is a recreation of "Sandese Aate Hain" from the original 1997 film Border, for which Malik composed the music and Javed Akhtar penned the lyrics.
Malik initially raised the issue in an interview with PTI, stating that he expected his name to be credited for the recreated song, as "Sandese Aate Hain" is integral to Border, and he and Javed Akhtar significantly contributed to its creation. He emphasized that "They can't make Border 2 without 'Sandese Aate Hain'". He also lauded the new rendition and praised the combination of singers Sonu Nigam and Arijit Singh, while reaffirming the importance of his and Javed Akhtar's original contributions.
Following these statements, reports emerged suggesting that Malik had not received credit for "Ghar Kab Aaoge". However, Malik has since refuted these reports, issuing a clarification via his Instagram Stories. In his statement, he expressed gratitude to Bhushan Kumar, stating, "I would like to clarify about the song 'Ghar Kab Aaoge' that Bhushan ji has already credited me with immense warmth and respect". He further added, "This is a unique collaboration that I am genuinely proud of, and I have also shared my thoughts publicly across my social media platforms. Any reports suggesting otherwise are based on incorrect reporting. I stand by this collaboration with pride and gratitude".
"Ghar Kab Aaoge" has been recreated by Mithoon, with additional lyrics by Manoj Muntashir. The song's teaser has already been released, focusing on the emotions of soldiers and their families awaiting their return home. The full song is scheduled to be released on January 2, 2026, at a special event in Longewala-Tanot, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.
Border 2, directed by Anurag Singh, features a star-studded cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. The film is slated for release on January 23, 2025. The original Border was directed by JP Dutta and featured Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, and Akshaye Khanna.
