Pakistan's Endorsement: China's Mediation Claims in Op Sindoor Gain Support, Adding Complexity to Regional Relations.

Pakistan has officially supported China's assertion that it played a role in mediating the conflict between India and Pakistan during May 2025, which included India's military operation, Operation Sindoor. This endorsement comes after China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi claimed that Beijing had helped de-escalate tensions between the two nations.

Operation Sindoor was launched by India on May 7, 2025, in response to a terror attack in Pahalgam, where 26 civilians were killed. India stated that the operation targeted terrorist infrastructure belonging to groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, while Pakistan claimed that the strikes hit civilian areas. Following the strikes, both countries engaged in skirmishes, cross-border firing, and artillery shelling.

According to the Times of India, at a press briefing on Thursday, the Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson, Tahir Andrabi, stated that Chinese leaders were in constant contact with Pakistan's leadership and had also made certain contacts with the Indian leadership during the period of May 6th to 10th, and possibly before and after. Andrabi characterized these exchanges as "very positive diplomatic exchanges" that contributed to "bringing down temperatures and trying to bring peace and security in the region". He affirmed that Pakistan shares China's assessment and considers these efforts as "diplomacy for peace, for prosperity, for security".

India, however, has maintained that the cessation of hostilities followed a request from Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) to its Indian counterpart, dismissing any third-party intervention. Despite this, China's claim mirrors similar assertions made by former US President Donald Trump, who also stated that Washington played a decisive role in ending the confrontation.

The timing of Pakistan's statement has raised eyebrows, as it had previously credited the US President Donald Trump exclusively for the suspension of hostilities. Some reports indicate that China provided military assistance to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, adding complexity to its claimed role as a mediator. India's Deputy Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Rahul R Singh, suggested that China used the conflict as a "live lab," extending support to Pakistan to cause harm to India.

Despite these concerns, China has sought to downplay India's assertion that it used the conflict as a "live lab". China's Foreign Ministry expressed regret over India's strikes and called for restraint at the start of Operation Sindoor.
