India's Trusted Traveller Program: Expediting Immigration Processes for Faster and Smoother Airport Experiences

India is streamlining international travel with its new Fast Track Immigration - Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP), designed to expedite the immigration process for eligible travelers. Launched on June 22, 2024, at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi by Home Minister Amit Shah, the program aims to provide a seamless and secure experience for international passengers.

Who is Eligible?

The FTI-TTP is currently available to Indian nationals and foreign nationals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards. To be eligible, applicants must not be involved in any legal investigations or required by law enforcement agencies for assistance in investigations. Moreover, the applicant's passport should be valid for at least 6 months when applying for FTI-TTP. Note that individuals with Emigration Check Required (ECR) passports and those under 7 years of age are not eligible for the program. For applicants between 7 and 18 years of age, parents or guardians can use their email and mobile number for registration.

How Does It Work?

The FTI-TTP utilizes automated e-gates and biometric technology to reduce immigration waiting times. Once registered, travelers can bypass traditional immigration lines and complete the process in seconds. Here’s how to use the FTI-TTP e-gates at participating airports:

  1. Proceed to the dedicated FTI-TTP e-gates in the immigration area.
  2. Scan your passport and boarding pass at the first e-gate.
  3. If verified, proceed to the next e-gate where your face and fingerprints will be scanned for biometric authentication.
  4. Upon successful verification, the e-gate will open, and the immigration process is complete. No immigration stamps will be given when using eGates; travel details can be accessed on the FTI-TTP portal.

Registration Process

To enroll in the FTI-TTP, applicants need to register online through the government website and provide the required details. A valid personal email ID and mobile number are required for registration, with a limit of six registrations per mobile number and email ID. After online registration, applicants must enroll their biometrics at a Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) or a designated counter at an international airport. The entire registration process may take between 15 days to one month.

Where is FTI-TTP Available?

Initially launched at Delhi Airport, the FTI-TTP has expanded to several major airports across India. As of September 2025, the program is operational at 13 airports, including Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Lucknow, Amritsar, Calicut, Trivandrum, and Trichy. The Ministry of Home Affairs plans to integrate the program into the upcoming Navi Mumbai and Jewar airports as well.

Benefits and Impact

The FTI-TTP offers numerous benefits, including reduced waiting times, a hassle-free travel experience, and enhanced security. By automating the immigration process, the program saves time and provides convenience for frequent travelers. According to Home Minister Amit Shah, travelers using the FTI-TTP can clear immigration in as little as 30 seconds. The program aligns with the government's vision of 'Viksit Bharat @2047', aiming to transform India into a developed nation. As of September 2025, approximately 3 lakh individuals have registered for the program, with over 2.6 lakh travelers already utilizing the facility.

The FTI-TTP is a significant step towards modernizing India's immigration infrastructure and providing world-class facilities to travelers. By leveraging technology and streamlining processes, the program enhances efficiency, security, and convenience, making international travel a more pleasant experience.
