On Republic Day 2026, a total of 982 personnel from Police, Fire Service, Home Guard & Civil Defence, and Correctional Services have been awarded Gallantry and Service Medals. These awards recognize acts of bravery, distinguished service, and meritorious contributions.

Of the 982 awardees, 125 received Gallantry Medals (GM), with 121 from the Police Service and 4 from the Fire Service. These medals are awarded for acts of conspicuous gallantry in saving lives and property, preventing crime, or arresting criminals, with consideration given to the risks involved. A significant portion of the Gallantry Awards were given to personnel from areas affected by Left Wing Extremism (35 personnel) and Jammu & Kashmir (45 personnel). Additionally, 5 personnel from the North-East region and 40 from other regions were also recognized for their courageous actions.

In addition to the Gallantry Medals, 101 personnel were awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM), recognizing their special distinguished record in service. Of these, 89 were awarded to Police Service personnel, 5 to Fire Service, 3 to Civil Defence & Home Guard Service, and 4 to Correctional Service. Furthermore, 756 personnel received the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM), which is awarded for valuable service characterized by resourcefulness and devotion to duty. This included 664 from Police Service, 34 from Fire Service, 33 from Civil Defence & Home Guard Service, and 25 from Correctional Service.

Among the recipients, the Jammu and Kashmir Police received the maximum number of gallantry decorations. Fifty-two personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police were decorated with police medals. This included the President's Medal for Distinguished Service, the Medal for Gallantry, and the Medal for Meritorious Service. Deputy Inspectors General of Police Haseeb Mughal and Nisha Nathyal were accorded the President's Medal for Distinguished Service. Thirty-three personnel received the Medal for Gallantry for acts of exceptional bravery in operational situations.

The awards were presented on the occasion of the 76th Republic Day, recognizing the outstanding contributions of these individuals to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and security of the nation. The awards reflect the diverse and exemplary contributions of the force in challenging circumstances.
