The film was a huge box office success, becoming one of the highest-grossing Bollywood ventures of that year. The film ultimately earned over Rs 20 crore at the box office.

Ghayal also garnered critical acclaim, earning a National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Sunny Deol also received a Special Jury Award at the National Film Awards.

Sunny Deol and director Rajkumar Santoshi went on to collaborate on films like Damini and Ghatak after Ghayal, both of which were also successful.

Another movie that Sunny Deol rejected was Deewana Mastana. Made with a budget of approximately Rs 7 crore, it reportedly grossed Rs 24.33 crore. The film is a love triangle about a mentally challenged person and a small-time conman who are fighting for the same girl.
