WSL discussion: Liverpool's victory arrives as Chelsea's title hopes face a significant setback and uncertainty.

Liverpool finally secured their first Women's Super League (WSL) win of the season, while Chelsea's title hopes suffered a significant blow following a defeat to Arsenal.

Liverpool, languishing at the bottom of the table, pulled off a stunning 2-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur. Mia Enderby scored twice in stoppage time to seal the win, providing a much-needed boost in their battle against relegation. Denise O'Sullivan, making her WSL debut for Liverpool, played a key role in midfield. Despite the victory, Liverpool remains at the bottom of the table, trailing West Ham by one point.

Meanwhile, Chelsea, the reigning WSL champions, suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal. Beth Mead's impressive performance, scoring one goal and assisting another, proved decisive in the match held at Stamford Bridge in front of approximately 30,000 fans. This loss leaves Chelsea trailing league leaders Manchester City by six points; a gap that could extend to nine if City won their subsequent match against London City Lionesses.

Following the defeat, Chelsea's manager, Sonia Bompastor, admitted that their title hopes were likely over. "Today we understand the situation," Bompastor said. "We know the title race is probably gone, but our mentality is to fight until the very end". Bompastor acknowledged the significant gap between her team and Manchester City, stating that it would be difficult to close if City maintained their performance level. She emphasized the importance of focusing on securing points and maintaining a second-place position.

Manchester City capitalized on Chelsea's slip-up, extending their lead at the top of the table with a 2-1 victory over London City Lionesses. Khadija Shaw scored the winning goal, further solidifying City's title charge. With this win, Manchester City moved nine points clear of Chelsea, increasing their chances of winning their first title since 2016.

In other WSL action, Manchester United surpassed Tottenham to secure fourth place after a 4-1 win against Aston Villa.
