Bhumi Pednekar Revisits "Sonchiriya" Technique, Applying Past Lessons to Her Role in Prime Video's "Daldal".

Bhumi Pednekar is reflecting on her past roles as she prepares for the release of "Daldal" on Prime Video on January 30. The actress recently revealed that she revisited a specific acting technique from her 2019 film, "Sonchiriya," to enhance her performance in the upcoming series.

In "Daldal," Bhumi plays DCP Rita Ferreira, a determined cop navigating a male-dominated field. Bhumi describes Rita as "a super achiever, a glass-ceiling breaker, and a rewriter of rules in a man's world". She is ambitious, passionate about her job, and leads from the front. However, Bhumi noted the constrictive nature of the character early in shooting, expressing how "handicapped" and still she felt. She couldn't express with her eyes, leaving people to wonder what Rita was thinking.

To capture the essence of Rita, Bhumi recalled a technique she learned during "Sonchiriya," where director Abhishek Chaubey instructed her to suppress emotions in her eyes and express everything physically. In "Sonchiriya," Bhumi played a suppressed woman who couldn't show emotion in her eyes for fear of being killed. She applied a similar approach to Rita, using physicality to convey the character's internal state.

Bhumi has a history of portraying strong, independent women in films such as "Dum Laga Ke Haisha," "Toilet: Ek Prem Katha," "Shubh Mangal Saavdhan," "Lust Stories," "Bala," "Badhaai Do," "Saand Ki Aankh," and "Bhakshak". She believes these roles reflect her vision of Indian women on screen: women who shape society and have the right to pursue their dreams.

"Daldal" is directed by Amrit Raj Gupta and produced by Vikram Malhotra and Suresh Triveni. The series, an Abundantia Entertainment production based on Vish Dhamija's novel "Bhendi Bazaar", also stars Samara Tijori and Aditya Rawal. "Daldal" will be available on Prime Video in India and across 240 countries and territories starting January 30.
