Rohini Acharya, daughter of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, has ignited a fresh controversy within the party by questioning the leadership and demanding accountability. Ahead of the RJD's national executive meeting in Patna, Acharya has openly criticized the party's current state, alleging that "infiltrators and conspirators" are controlling the RJD and undermining its core ideology.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Acharya has expressed her concerns about the direction the party is taking under the leadership of her brother, Tejashwi Yadav. Without explicitly naming Tejashwi, she has indirectly criticized his leadership style, stating that those in charge should provide "logical and factual responses" instead of evading questions, spreading confusion, and resorting to "misconduct, rude behavior, and uncivil language" towards those who speak out for "Laluism" and the party's interests.
Acharya warned that the silence of the leadership would be seen as complicity with those plotting against the party. She further added that anyone who truly embodies "Laluvad" would question the party's current state and raise their voice against those responsible for its "sorry state of affairs," regardless of the consequences.
These remarks come at a sensitive time for the RJD, as the party's top leadership is gathering for a crucial organizational meeting to discuss leadership and strategy. The health concerns of party patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav have also fueled the debate over leadership succession. Tejashwi Yadav was previously appointed as the national working president of the party.
Acharya's recent outburst is not the first time she has publicly criticized the RJD's leadership. Following the party's defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections last year, she announced her decision to quit politics and disown her family, blaming Tejashwi Yadav's close aides, Sanjay Yadav and Rameez, for the electoral debacle. She alleged that she had been humiliated and abused within the party setup.
Sanjay Yadav is a Rajya Sabha MP from RJD and a trusted aide of Tejashwi Yadav, while Rameez is said to be an old friend of Tejashwi from Uttar Pradesh. Acharya had unsuccessfully contested the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Saran.
Acharya's allegations of "infiltrators" controlling the party have sparked a significant row within the RJD. Her remarks suggest a deep division within the party, with concerns raised about the direction it is heading under Tejashwi Yadav's leadership. She has accused these "infiltrators" of "working against the founding principles" of the party and weakening its core identity.
The timing of Acharya's outburst, just before the RJD's national executive meeting, suggests a deliberate attempt to challenge the party's leadership and demand greater accountability. It remains to be seen how the party will respond to her allegations and whether it will lead to any significant changes in the RJD's leadership or direction.
