Morgan Stanley has appointed Amy Oldenburg as the Head of Digital Asset Strategy, signaling a significant move to strengthen its position in the digital asset space. Oldenburg, a veteran executive with over 20 years of experience at the firm, will lead the newly established digital asset strategy division.
According to an internal memo from Co-Presidents Andy Saperstein and Dan Simkowitz, Oldenburg's role will be integral to the bank's firmwide strategy and execution efforts in the digital asset domain. She will be responsible for building and connecting the firm's digital asset capabilities, engaging with digital industry consortiums, and collaborating with various business units.
Prior to this appointment, Oldenburg led the emerging markets equity business within Morgan Stanley's investment-management business, where she also managed digital asset initiatives. Her extensive experience within the firm makes her well-suited to guide Morgan Stanley's expanding digital asset strategy.
This strategic move aligns with Morgan Stanley's recent activities in the cryptocurrency sector, including filing for spot Bitcoin and Solana ETFs and planning to launch its own digital wallet this year. The firm is also expanding its digital asset team, with recruitment efforts focused on roles in portfolio governance and crypto compliance consulting. These actions indicate Morgan Stanley's anticipation of shifts in digital asset legislation and the growing acceptance of stablecoins. The appointment of Oldenburg and the expansion of the digital asset team highlight Morgan Stanley's commitment to providing clients with access to emerging investment opportunities in the digital asset class.
