New Delhi – Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament, Manoj Tiwari, has filed a police complaint regarding a fake Facebook account operating under his name. The complaint, lodged on January 22, 2026, prompted the Delhi Police to register a First Information Report (FIR) on Thursday. Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter.

The fake Facebook account, titled "Manoj Tiwari BJP," utilizes the MP's photograph and has been active for some time. Tiwari, who represents North-East Delhi in the Lok Sabha and is a former Delhi BJP chief, stated in his FIR that the account has no connection to him and was created without his consent or authorization. He alleged that the account is being fraudulently operated by unknown individuals who are misusing his name, photographs, and videos.

Tiwari expressed serious concerns that the fake Facebook ID is being used to circulate misleading and false messages, thereby misusing his name, position, and public image on social media and in society. He described the situation as "extremely serious, objectionable, and a matter of grave concern".

The FIR has been registered at the Cyber Police Station in New Delhi district under Section 66C of the Information Technology Act, which deals with identity theft, and Section 356(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), related to defamation.

Tiwari shared a copy of his complaint on social media platform X, noting that the fake Facebook account even had a blue-tick verification. He also shared a screenshot of the account, which displayed his photographs with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In his complaint, Tiwari has requested the police to conduct a thorough and immediate investigation, take steps to deactivate the account, and ensure strict legal action against those involved under the applicable laws.

According to police, the content on the Facebook page is currently restricted in India following a legal request from I4C–Delhi Law Enforcement. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify and take legal action against those responsible for operating the fake account.

Manoj Tiwari is also a well-known singer and actor in the Bhojpuri film industry and hails from Kaimur in Bihar. He initially joined the Samajwadi Party in 2009 before switching to the BJP.
