A Delhi-Goa IndiGo flight, operating as flight 6E-6271, made an emergency landing at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on July 16, 2025, after experiencing a mid-air engine failure. Sources indicate the Airbus A320neo aircraft was diverted to Mumbai due to a "technical snag".
The incident occurred around 9:27 PM when the aircraft was approximately 100 nautical miles north of Bhubaneswar. The pilot reportedly raised an alarm at 9:25 PM and safely landed the plane at 9:42 PM. However, other reports indicate the aircraft landed at 9:52 PM or 9:53 PM. Full emergency procedures were initiated after the engine failure. Airport officials stated that as per standard operating procedure, an ambulance and fire tenders were on standby to follow the aircraft until it reached the bay.
IndiGo has confirmed the incident, stating that a technical snag was detected on flight 6E 6271 en route from Delhi to Manohar International Airport, Goa. In accordance with safety protocols, the flight was diverted to Mumbai. The airline has not yet disclosed the specific nature of the technical issue or the number of passengers on board. However, one source states that there were 191 people on board.
An IndiGo spokesperson said that the aircraft will undergo thorough checks and maintenance before resuming operations. Passengers will continue their journey on an alternative aircraft. The airline has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen event, emphasizing that the safety and security of customers, crew, and aircraft are of utmost importance to IndiGo.
Prior to this incident, another IndiGo flight, 6E 2482 from Delhi to Patna, performed a go-around during its initial landing attempt due to an unstabilized approach. The aircraft, carrying 173 passengers, landed safely on the second attempt.
