An Air India flight, operating as AI315 from Hong Kong to Delhi, experienced a fire in its auxiliary power unit (APU) shortly after landing at Delhi's Indira Gandhi Airport on July 22, 2025. The aircraft has been grounded, and an investigation is underway.

According to an Air India spokesperson, the incident occurred while passengers were disembarking after the flight had landed and parked at the gate. The APU, which provides power to the aircraft when the main engines are not running, automatically shut down as designed.

All passengers and crew members safely disembarked the aircraft. The airline reported that the flight sustained some damage due to the fire.

This incident follows another recent event involving Air India. On June 16, 2025, Air India flight AI315, en route from Hong Kong to Delhi, returned to Hong Kong shortly after takeoff due to a technical issue. The flight landed safely, and passengers were provided with alternative arrangements. This earlier incident occurred just days after a fatal Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. In that crash, an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating as flight AI171, crashed into a medical college hostel shortly after takeoff, killing over 270 people.

The recent incidents have raised concerns about the safety of Air India's fleet. Following the fatal crash in Ahmedabad, Indian authorities ordered additional safety checks on all of the airline's Boeing 787s.
