Famiang, believed to be the oldest woman in Mizoram and possibly the entire northeastern region of India, has passed away at the age of 117. She breathed her last on Tuesday morning, July 22, 2025, at her residence in Pangkhua village, located in the Lawngtlai district of southern Mizoram.

Born in 1908 to Huathmung and Suisung, Famiang lived through significant historical periods, witnessing British colonial rule and India's transformation into a modern nation. She married Heinawna, who has also passed away, and together they had eight children. Famiang's life was marked by her strong spirit and good health, enabling her to actively participate in her community even in her advanced age.

Famiang leaves behind a large and loving family, a testament to her long life and the generations she influenced. Her descendants include 51 grandchildren, 122 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren, totaling 195 descendants.

Despite her age, Famiang remained engaged in civic life. Notably, she cast her vote in the Mizoram State Assembly Elections in November 2023. The state election commission recognized her dedication to the democratic process and honored her with a certificate of appreciation.

In recent months, Famiang's health began to decline due to age-related issues, with her condition worsening in July. Her family provided her with dedicated care at home, ensuring she was comfortable in her final days. She passed away peacefully at 7:00 AM on Tuesday. Famiang was laid to rest in Pangkhua's cemetery.

Famiang was widely respected for her longevity, vitality, and active involvement in community affairs. She was considered one of the oldest individuals in India and the world. Her passing is mourned by her community, who remember her remarkable life and contributions.
