The Greater Noida dowry death case has seen a significant development with the arrest of the victim Nikki Bhati's mother-in-law. This comes shortly after Nikki's husband, Vipin Bhati, was apprehended in connection with her murder. Nikki, 28, was allegedly subjected to abuse, assault, and ultimately set ablaze by her husband and in-laws due to dowry demands.

The events leading to Nikki's death have sparked outrage and protests, highlighting the persistent issue of dowry violence. The crime occurred in Greater Noida, and the Kasna Police Station has registered a case against Vipin and his family based on a complaint filed by Nikki's sister.

According to reports, Nikki was assaulted and set on fire by her in-laws in front of her sister and young son. Her son, approximately six years old, recounted the horrific incident, stating that his mother was attacked, doused with a substance, and set ablaze. Nikki succumbed to her injuries at a Delhi hospital.

Evidence has emerged in the form of videos that allegedly show the abuse Nikki suffered. One video purportedly shows Vipin and his mother assaulting Nikki, with Vipin dragging her by her hair. Another video reportedly depicts Nikki walking down the stairs while on fire. Nikki's sister, Kanchan, managed to record some of the assault before losing consciousness.

Vipin initially attempted to portray Nikki's death as a suicide, even posting emotional messages on social media. However, he was later arrested by the police. During his arrest, he was shot in the leg while allegedly attempting to escape custody. In a shocking statement to reporters, Vipin showed no remorse, claiming Nikki "died on her own". He also said that "fights between husband and wife are common".

Nikki's family has been vocal in their demands for justice. Her mother revealed that Nikki had previously complained about abuse at her in-laws' house, leading her family to bring her home on a couple of occasions. However, Nikki was repeatedly sent back on promises that the abuse would stop, but it allegedly continued. Nikki's mother stated that they had given Vipin a car, a motorcycle, and gold during their marriage and after their son's birth, "but he wanted even more".

The police investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to apprehend the remaining accused, including Nikki's brother-in-law, Rohit, and her father-in-law. The arrest of Nikki's mother-in-law is a significant step in the investigation, and authorities located and arrested her based on information gathered after Vipin's arrest.
